Burton Cummings to Open Macomb Center Season, 10/6

The Macomb Center for the Performing Arts has announced that Burton Cummings, former lead singer/songwriter of The Guess Who, will make a rare Michigan performance, opening the Macomb Center's new season, on Saturday, October 6 at 8 p.m.

Mary Chapin Carpenter, originally scheduled to open the season, will be inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame for a Lifetime Achievement Award on the same weekend she was to perform at the Macomb Center. Due to this scheduling conflict, her concert at the Macomb Center has been cancelled.

Emerging on the scene as the lead singer of The Guess Who from 1965 to 1975, Burton Cummings has amassed more hit records than just about any other Canadian performer in history. His voice has been rated among the finest in rock music.

During his time with The Guess Who Burton sang, wrote and co-wrote the lion's share of the music, including such signature hits as "These Eyes," "Laughing," "No Time," "American Woman," "Share the Land," "Clap For the Wolfman," and so many more.

In 1975, after 10 years, Burton Cummings left The Guess Who to become a solo artist and the group disbanded. His subsequent solo successes included "Stand Tall," "I'm Scared," "Break it to Them Gently," and "Fine State of Affairs."

In 2000, The Guess Who reunited for concerts across Canada, and in 2001, they toured the U.S. extensively with a "close to original" lineup, including Cummings, Bachman, Peterson, McDougall, and Wallace. Most recently Cummings appears at various Canadian venues as a solo performer.

Cummings continues his writings, both songs and prose. Cummings' latest release is Above the Ground. It contains 19 tracks, all written by Cummings himself, with no co-writers. Longtime fans have called this his best work ever, meeting with critical praise since its release.

Enjoy the ageless, timeless, priceless music of Burton Cummings for one special performance that spans the generations.

Tickets are $55 gold circle, and $50 house ($65 pit seating), seniors 55+, students and military save $5 per ticket. Purchase tickets in person at the Macomb Center box office Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. and Friday 12 - 6 p.m. The Macomb Center for the Performing Arts is located on Macomb Community College's Center Campus at 44575 Garfield Road in Clinton Township, Michigan 48038. Tickets and additional information, including a complete season schedule, are available online at www.MacombCenter.com or by calling 586.286.2222.

Burton Cummings is sponsored in part by the Macomb Center's premiere sponsors for the 2012 -2013 season YP Real Yellow Pages and The Macomb Daily.
