In the last five years, urban centers in North America have seen the resurgence of the bedbug; an insect that comes alive at night and feeds on human blood. Though small, the bedbug is the cause of great physical discomfort and psychological distress. Bedbugs looks at how such a small creature can have such a great impact on our everyday lives.

Julie and Paul, a young couple, are moving into an apartment together for the first time. Little do they realize that tango-dancing Rex and his consort, Doreen, along with hoards of their offspring, are waiting for them. Smitten, Rex becomes obsessed with Julie's blood, driving a wedge between the couple.

Each year the Concordia Association of Students in English (C.A.S.E.) holds a competition for young playwrights, offering a production to the selected play. Rachael Picard is this year's C.A.S.E. competition winner. "The topic of bedbugs is relevant and in the news these days, especially for Montrealers. In a city that defines itself as bohemian, and boasts such a large population, bedbugs are very much a new part of the city's consciousness. You can't walk down St. Laurent Blvd. without bumping into someone who's had an experience or knows someone who's had to deal with an exterminator."

Deanna Dobie is currently a Theatre and Development student at Concordia University, actor and freelance journalist. Dobie sees Bedbugs as a comment on modern relationships, "No matter what your age, sex, where you live, who you live with or where you're from, the way in which we interact, view and communicate with each other influences our personal relationships."

Bedbugs promises tango, globetrotting and the suspension of disbelief as new and unusual friendships form.
"Great, so everyone knows. I'll just make myself a sign I can wear around my neck that says, 'Infectious. Bugs. Quarantine.'" ~ PAUL
