THE SCOTTISH PLAY to Premiere at Broadway Onstage, 4/16-5/15

THE SCOTTISH PLAY, a world premiere comedy production by local author Edward J. Thomas, is the closing production of the 16th Season at Eastpointe's Broadway Onstage Live Theatre. Opening on Friday, April 16 and running Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Select Sundays at 2pm through Saturday, May 15, the bright comedy tells the story of an obscure community theatre that hires a has-been professional director to stage a production of MACBETH.

Select Sunday Matinees are only performed at Broadway Onstage when a prearranged group of 30 or more is scheduled to attend. Broadway Onstage Live Theatre is located at 21517 Kelly Rd. at Toepfer (8 ½ Mile Rd.) in Eastpointe. It is the home of the patented TeeVeeStage^TM Presentation system, which employs cameras above the audience and monitors above the stage to provide audience members with different viewing perspectives of the live stage performance. Broadway Onstage Live Theatre is also the home of Dennis Wickline Productions, Inc., which began producing Non-Equity professional live theatre on the Eastside of Detroit in February of 1980.

THE SCOTTISH PLAY tells the story of Ty Berangham, a has-been professional theatrical director, who has been hired to stage a production of MACBETH for an out-of-the-way community theatre. Kevin, an old friend of Ty's from Julliard, has recommended Ty to the group and Kevin is cast as Macbeth. Unfortunately, there are not very many active actors in this theatre company and the group is attempting to stage MACBETH with the five actors who auditioned. Ty's drinking; the lack of talent in the Production Company, and Kevin's penchant for breaking into ROMEO AND JULIET at every possible moment and THE SCOTTISH PLAY becomes a hilarious view of what it's like to be a part of a struggling theatrical production. Add to that the superstitious nature of Lydia, portraying Lady Macbeth, who is afraid for anyone to even mention the word "MACBETH" because of disasters that have befallen productions in the past, Collette who is jealous of Lydia and tries to hit on every man in the cast, and the rest of the rag tag group that is assembled to attempt the production and THE SCOTTISH PLAY is a jewel of comic story telling.

The cast of THE SCOTTISH PLAY at Broadway Onstage is exceptional. Portraying Ty is Broadway Onstage producer Dennis Wickline. Mr. Wickline is the producer of all productions at Broadway Onstage and was last seen there as Miles in the just completed production of THE CRAZY TIME. Rick Mason, a veteran of many productions on a professional and community level, takes on the role of Kevin. Maureen Cook, very active with Birmingham Village Players, will be seen as Lydia, the actress chosen to portray Lady Macbeth. Christy Cannon will be seen as Collette, the coquette. The cast is completed with Don Couture as Al, Charley "Chip" Davis as Stu, and Broadway Onstage favorite John Arden McClure as the Stage Manager, Jeff. Dennis Wickline also acts as Director of the production.
