It transferred to the Palace Theatre on 4 December 1985 where it ran for 19 years before moving to its current home at the Queen's Theatre on 3 April 2004 where it has already played for 11 years and looks set to at least equal the run at the Palace Theatre as it is still playing to standing room only. When Les Miserables celebrated its 21st London birthday on 8 October 2006, it became the World's Longest Running Musical, surpassing the record previously held by Cats in London's West End.

This ever-popular musical is making a comeback - literally - and, no, I don't mean an uptick in ticket sales since the movie was released last December. PTC was the first regional theatre to produce Les Mis, in 2007, where it played for 10 sold-out weeks. The West End production of LES MISERABLES just welcomed some new cast members, including Broadway veteran Sierra Boggess as 'Fantine', as well as 'Over the Rainbow' winner Danielle Hope as 'Eponine.' For Fall Movie Preview week, MTV News interviewed Les Miserables film director Tom Hooper about his upcoming big-screen adaptation of the musical, starring Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Anne Hathaway as Fantine and a slew of other big-name stars. In the interview, Hooper described Hathaway's performance of 'I Dreamed A Dream' as 'quite breathtaking.' Caroline Sheen plays ‘Fantine', Alexia Khadime ‘Eponine', Craig Mather ‘Marius', Katy Secombe ‘Madame Thénardier', Liam Tamne ‘Enjolras' and Lisa-Anne Wood ‘Cosette'. They join Alfie Boe as ‘Jean Valjean', Matt Lucas as ‘Thénardier' and Hadley Fraser as ‘Javert'.
The all new production of 'Les Misérables,' featuring glorious new staging and spectacular re-imagined scenery inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo, just opened at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre on Friday, June 17, 2011. Performances will continue through July 31, 2011.
